About Jeff Floyd
In September of 2006, Jeff took on the challenge to deliver a $130M makeover of the computing infrastructure of ERCOT in support of the Nodal Market Redesign. The new infrastructure manages the electric grid and market in 85% of Texas. ERCOT is the equivalent of the New York Stock Exchange of the Texas Electric Market. As you can imagine high availability and accuracy are the common themes on this project. Hardware architecture, culture change, project controls, strategy, and of course leadership are the keys to this projects success.
Jeff Floyd accepted the role of Assistant Director for the TexasOnline project in September of 2003. In this role, Jeff was responsible for managing all client communications, interfacing with all client agencies, and overseeing the technology of TexasOnline.com. TexasOnline is a statewide ecommerce system supporting revenue of $1B per year.
Jeff joined the TexasOnline management team at, KPMG Consulting, later called BearingPoint in June 2002, as a technical project manager. In this role, his responsibilities were to identify, diagnose, and implement a recovery strategy for problematic technology projects. Jeff took ownership of a payment processing system located two-thousand miles away. Within 9 months, the payment system location change to a new hosting facility in Dallas with only 6 hours of downtime and no loss of transaction data. He not only took ownership of the system but also integrated the systems management into the existing Technology Operations team for TexasOnline using proven change management techniques.
Jeff shifted careers back to the consulting industry in May of 1999 joining Ajilon Consulting. At Ajilon Jeff recovered a failing technical project for a semiconductor tool client and improved the software testing methods at the Office of Attorney General Child Support Division.
Jeff moved to Austin Texas to embark on a career at Motorola Semiconductor. In his 9 years at Motorola Jeff held many technical and leadership positions. One of the most significant was Project Management Master, which was a program to bring project management to all areas of the company. Using change management techniques Jeff taught teams to plan and manage their projects. As a result, projects delivery was on time and budget.
Jeff started his career at Impell Consulting, which specialized in commercial nuclear power engineering. Jeff worked in mission critical areas where following process and procedures was critical to the success of the project and to the lives of the team.
In his spare time, Jeff teaches project management at the University of Texas Professional Development Center and for the Austin Chapter of the Project Management Institute. He also teaches Contract Management with the Software Quality Institute at UT. Jeff served as a volunteer in various board of director positions at PMI Austin including President of the chapter. As President Jeff, lead an extensive overhaul of the chapters processes and structure.
He enjoys watching students and team members grow and learn. One of the best motivators for Jeff is to see a team member he has mentored grow and move to new assignments with the knowledge that they have the tools and skills necessary to take on the challenges that await them.
Jeff has earned degrees in two main technology areas. Associates and Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology and a Masters of Science in Computer Engineering from Walden University. Jeff is currently enrolled at Walden University working toward a Masters of Business Administration degree. Expected graduation is December 2009.
I am involved with the Austin chapter of the Project Management Institute and have been so for a number of years.

·Elected to the Board of Directors in 2001 as the President
·At the end of my term as chapter president, I was appointed to the Past President in 2004.
·In 2005 I returned to teaching PMP classes for the chapter.
There is one U.S. patent to my name and I have authored papers on hardware testing and process improvement. Past employers include BearingPoint, Ajilon (Consulting), Motorola now Freescale (Semiconductor Sector) and Impell (Commercial Nuclear power consulting).
I am a Project Director on the ERCOT Nodal market redesign project leading the computing infrastructure redesign efforts.
